Worth knowing
This classic toro is not as sinister as the name "Solar Eclipse" and the night-black tubo suggest - but while the thicker VSG.s tend to be a little lighter than the thin ones, this 75-90 minute enjoyment is quite something!
Flavours
A perfect cigar for a relaxed gentlemen's evening is this sturdy growler in a tubo, which plays off the characteristics of its format in exemplary fashion: Creamy-smooth smoke texture with plenty of variety! Here, "peppery" really means pleasant, pleasantly warming and only slightly pungent spice instead of penetrating bite, and it is wonderfully embedded in caramel sweetness, the typical coffee and malt/cocoa notes as well as - more clearly than with the Coronas - a latent fruitiness of sultanas and dark berries that shines through again and again. Gentle on the palate, yet rather something for experienced aficionados.

Ashton
The Dominican cigar brand Ashton will soon be celebrating its 40th anniversary, as the renowned brand was founded in 1985 by Robert Levin. The brand name was inspired by the world-famous pipe maker William Ashton Taylor. Levins' ancestors were a tobacco family from Philadelphia, so his career was actually predetermined from childhood, as his father ran the local cigar shop “Holt's Cigar Company” in the middle of the 20th century. He soon harboured the dream of founding his own cigar brand and successfully placing it on the market, which he achieved with the help of his passion for cigars and the fortunate coincidence that the Fuente family helped him with their expertise in creating the first blends for his Ashton cigars. To this day, the brand's Dominican cigar lines are made by the most skilled rollers at the Arturo Fuente factory, while the Nicaraguan lines such as Paradiso and La Aroma del Caribe are made by Don Pepin Garcia at Tabacalera My Father. The company is now run by Roberts' children Sathya and Robert Jr.
