With this imposing Gordo, Ashton already spoiled the fans of "thick things" in a time when they were not yet quite so trendy. The six-incher in the beautiful Sungrown wrapper burns for about 80 - 95 minutes.

Master Carlito has not really "toned down" the blend for this double toro - a classic heavy evening cigar, only VERY conditionally recommended for beginners. Those who like it strong and full-bodied will be delighted with this excellent tobacco at a really fair price, because the "Wizard" exudes the magical taste of roasted nuts, best coffee, tropical woods and very dark chocolate from the first puff, underlaid with a flattering sweetness that sometimes reminds one of dried figs. Quite strong from the start, but doesn't tighten much as it progresses and retains its great creaminess until put down.

Worth knowing

As small as this distinctive cigar may be for about 30 - 40 minutes - it is in every respect a genuine Fuente of the classic series, completely handmade and with excellent Cameroon wrapper of the Meerapfel family in the dark variety.

So little diameter, so much flavour! The medium-bodied small format delights with plenty of bittersweet cocoa flavour, malty earthy notes, elegant hints of tart freshness and coffee bean scent throughout. The smoke consistency is not a whit less silky than the thicker AF formats - a real masterpiece of the torcedores! And even at a length of only 10.5 cm, there is an aroma development - peat and roasted notes become steadily more concise without losing the delicate sweetness. Also interesting for fans of the "Anejo" series who are looking for a very small format!

Whoever suspects a dangerously strong cigar behind the tart Caldwell humour will be proved wrong - "TKID" is a rather gentle blend of dignified tones in a minor key, with pronounced creamy smoke, an abundance of nutty-sweet roasted aromas, notes of mocha (with little sugar), but also of black tea and various woods. The character becomes more and more earthy in the second half, the sweetness goes more in the direction of liquorice; white pepper makes its presence felt in a warming way, also a hint of nutmeg and the scent of autumn leaves. The leatheriness of the sister series is only hinted at. Stylish small format!

Cigars that offer full enjoyment without compromise at such moderate prices are not found too often. Here is such a treasure, in a wonderfully designed, warmly coloured box! The thick five-incher burns for about 45 - 60 minutes.

Easily the most exciting format in the lovable range, this cigar holds everything we expect from good criollo. Various piquant spices play tag on the palate, a nice leather note runs through the background, which harmonises perfectly with sweet, but also subtly sour fruit tones. The longer the smoke lasts, the more the pithy, down-to-earth tobacco spicy facets gain the upper hand. The finer registers are nevertheless pulled further until they are put down, so that a play of aromas develops that is rare in this price category. Medium-bodied, yet quite full-flavoured.

Of course, it's not really strong - but this impressive, purely Dominican cigar certainly has a little more power than the similarly sized Toro. By SD standards, it's more for the evening, perfect with a glass of rum! The smoking time is around 70 - 85 minutes.

The flagship of the line literally has a little bit more of almost everything! More ripe fruit flavour and generally a more opulent sweetness, more roasted notes, complemented by a more racy, albeit still restrained spiciness - but above all a pronounced development in the course of the smoke, which leads from the usual mild start with a variety of "vegetal" aromas through the emphatically nutty-creamy 2nd third to a more intense finish characterised by toast, coffee and various spicy notes. The last puffs are earthy and toasty, definitely medium-bodied, yet still subliminally sweet. Great workmanship!

The "Don Carlos" line is a critics' favourite, and the large Torpedo in particular is generally regarded as one of the formats that every cigar lover must have tried once. Top Dominican tobaccos and a Cameroon wrapper provide about 65 - 85 minutes of pleasure!

Absolutely uncomplicated, yet immensely complex and with a lively, clear development in the course of smoking, the "No. 2" presents itself on a par with the Pyrámides from Davidoff or the famous Cuban brands. With its world of flavours of dark chocolate, mocha and oriental spices, it is definitely something for Montecristo fans, but it has its very own character. It shows itself in refreshing herbal notes as well as in the caramel sweetness of roasted almonds or sudden traces of ginger in the last third. A fascinating smoke with sensational smoke texture.

His Lordship is quite sweet and charming, with plenty of chocolate flavours and the subtle toasted notes of some sweetened mocha. These flavours remain clearly present throughout the smoke, but are joined by several overtones in a colourful round dance, which keep the smoke exciting. The fine tart character of walnuts can be tasted as well as the leathery component, which is also typical for the series and gradually becomes more prominent. At the same time, the transition to more profound, earthy and spicy flavours takes place, but the cigar remains nice and gentle at all times.

It would be difficult to combine many more different flavours in one cigar! Soft smoke consistency, well-dosed sweetness, roasted aromas of coffee beans and toast, dark chocolate, various nuts, but also numerous spices as well as hints of fruit, but also herbs - a whole rainbow unfolds! The compact "leg" has an extremely opulent, luxurious feel and unfolds an official aromatic depth at medium strength. It is not quite cheap, but is easily on a par with even more expensive luxury cigars. For quite a few, the best "Hemingway"!

This classic toro is not as sinister as the name "Solar Eclipse" and the night-black tubo suggest - but while the thicker VSG.s tend to be a little lighter than the thin ones, this 75-90 minute enjoyment is quite something!

A perfect cigar for a relaxed gentlemen's evening is this sturdy growler in a tubo, which plays off the characteristics of its format in exemplary fashion: Creamy-smooth smoke texture with plenty of variety! Here, "peppery" really means pleasant, pleasantly warming and only slightly pungent spice instead of penetrating bite, and it is wonderfully embedded in caramel sweetness, the typical coffee and malt/cocoa notes as well as - more clearly than with the Coronas - a latent fruitiness of sultanas and dark berries that shines through again and again. No, not a tasty smoked sausage, but a full-fledged short smoke with power and finesse is what we have here in front of the gun! The chubby little one of the "Oscuro" line pleases the friend of powerful ring gauges for about 35 - 45 minutes.

After an intensely toasty start, a beautifully balanced interplay of hearty toasty flavours on the one hand, an opulent sweetish spiciness on the other unfolds. Gingerbread, walnuts, fresh bread crust and sultanas complement each other to a multi-layered and full-bodied smoking pleasure, which offers quite a bit more power than the other Balmoral Gorditos. A little more savoury and spicy than the delicate Corona, the classically sized Robusto is definitely – but still a decidedly mild and comfortable cigar to smoke. Leathery facets float above them, as does a good shot of caffè latte. And the six-incher also comes with all the hallmarks of the classic blend: Charming fruit flavour with a sweet main accent meets that cedary tobacco taste that betrays its Caribbean provenance. Despite the low nicotine content, the smoke definitely has a certain spiciness to offer, reminiscent of white pepper. The first impression is astonishment at how uncommonly harmonious a clearly perceptible, admittedly relatively gentle spice harmonises here with blissful, lulling honey sweetness. White pepper, a hint of cinnamon and traces of fine herbal scents unfold alongside classic Shadegrown notes like toast/white bread, cereals and especially melting light nuts (especially almonds). The development is naturally limited at this short length - nevertheless, in the 2nd half there is a clear turn towards more roasted flavours like latte. The very moderate strength does not overwhelm even beginners.

In terms of dimensions, this is admittedly "only" a shorter version of the Corona with a smoking time of approx. 40 - 50 minutes. As far as the taste profile is concerned, however, it certainly has its very own charms to offer. Perfect format for in between!

Flavour

The woody character of the tobacco blend also comes out wonderfully in the short corona. Here, however, it is more clearly complemented by beautiful bittersweet notes between cocoa and tart roasted nuts; the latter become increasingly prominent from around the middle. Herbal facets of menthol and garden herbs provide a pleasant touch of ethereal freshness before the initially light, later rather medium-bodied smoke produces a surprisingly clear dose of tickling pepper spice, which never comes too far to the fore. The VF for advanced smokers!

More of a Petit Lancero is this beautiful 38, which seems to have fallen out of time in the era of the Gordos. The amazingly productive roll burns for 35 - 50 minutes and has been part of the broad Fuente portfolio for many decades.

Aroma

The unmistakable nutty undertone of the GR blend carries the aroma from A to Z. The narrow ring gauge, on the other hand, provides a somewhat spicier character, which is expressed in clear herbal notes as well as in a plus of nicely balanced spice from green pepper and cinnamon. Not to forget the marzipan sweetness of the wrapper, which runs constantly through the background. Later, more and more woody notes and a fine leathery component are added. With constant harmony, the strength rises from a very manageable to a smooth medium level.

Worth knowing

If you want to easily spend 2 hours with an awe-inspiring long format of upscale strength, you won't easily find a fairer deal than this special Vítola, probably called more out of embarrassment than DC!

Flavours

Don't worry, this giant comes across a little less strong than the "Sorcerer" - otherwise it would probably be a real challenge even for Chuck Norris. A touch more sweetness, a clearer cocoa note, but less spice and roasted aromas, that's how you can describe the differences to the Churchill of the series. What unites them is of course the omnipresent fine woodiness of VSG, but also complexity and balance. The smoke has a silky smooth texture throughout - the unusual combination of 19 cm length, RM 54 and box pressing pays off. Harmonious, satisfying, delicious!

Worth knowing

The thick robustos of the other "Anejo XO" series are particularly well received, and this one also has what it takes to be a favourite. You by no means have to be as wealthy as the eponymous Baron to enjoy this opulent cigar - even ordinary mortals get about 55 - 70 minutes of enjoyment.

Whoever thinks of "Connecticut" and RM 55 as distinct sweetness, sloppy smoke texture and beginner-friendly strength... is right on the money! Those who fear boredom, on the other hand, are not at all - the good-natured stovepipe definitely has variety to offer and stands out from the other formats with nice details such as a latent fruitiness that fits wonderfully with the caffè latte flair, the mild roasted aromas and the fragrant wood/hay notes of the blend. The cocoa note of the Brazilian leaf is subtly noticeable in the background. A very engaging, harmonious cigar.

No, the Gordito has no place in your hunting rifle, even if it reminds you of a shotgun shell. The contemporary Short Smoke blows out mighty clouds of smoke and provides for approx. 35 - 45 minutes of proper spectacle - also in terms of taste!

Not surprisingly, the puffball is fully present immediately after lighting up and brings its aromas to the palate without fuss in the massive volume of smoke. And of course it shines with smooth flavour development and a particularly creamy mouthfeel. Certainly the lightest, most uncomplicated and beginner-friendly cigar in the series, light-medium, with prominent sweetness of chocolate and latte, but also soft earthy-malty notes and a toned-down version of the roast, pepper, wood and smoked tones that give the blend a hearty, spicy side.
