Anyone who has not yet discovered the complexity of a Churchill will find this the perfect introduction to the format. The classic smoke progression is wonderful to follow, from the mild, delicately spicy and woody start to the full bouquet of delightful fruit and flower flavours with delicious honey sweetness and the nutty, melting impression of the 2nd third to the spicy cinnamon and bitter-sweet roasted notes of the last section. Herbal, mineral and citrus-fruity-sour notes can also be tasted, so that the smoke leaves nothing to be desired in terms of excitement. The nicotine content, on the other hand, remains moderate - a fantastic summer cigar!

Worth knowing

For the relaunch of the German premium brand under Willi Knopf's aegis, classic formats were once again chosen - this is the most traditional of all. It presents the blend with all the advantages of the Vítola and burns for approx. 40 - 50 minutes.

Flavours

One of the most elegant and delicate tobacco blends outside of Cuba is allowed to develop the characteristic flavours of a classic corona in an exemplary manner. Rather little nicotine, but full aromatic opulence! It begins with floral and delicately fruity notes with a wonderful sweetness; soon complemented by tart overtones and striking cedar wood tones, which give the cigar - like the entire series - a Habanos affinity that literally no other non-Cuban blend possesses. Stately ring gauge and torpedo head - the combination lends finesse and opulence to the carefully matured tobaccos! More of a pyrámid in size, the Belicoso is not stingy with its flavours for around 70 - 80 minutes.

Flavours

More opulence at the beginning and more power towards the end than the Robusto, which has a similar flavour, with slightly more strength - this is how you could describe this excellent cigar in shorthand. In other words: ripe fruit sweetness, delicately acidic notes, subtle overtones of spices and herbs complement each other wonderfully with the sludgy flavour of light nuts and elegant woody facets. A clearly pronounced smoke progression leads the connoisseur gently towards a spicier interplay of flavours. The series' trademark of remaining extremely balanced and gentle until it is put down is also fully realised here.

Eine ganz edle Serie wurde da 2019 neu aufgelegt! Ihr keuscher Name bezieht sich auf die unverfälschte Ursprünglichkeit der verwendeten dominikanischen Tabake, die man extralang (4 – 5 Jahre) reifen lässt. Rauchdauer ca. 65 – 85 Minuten.

Der sensationelle Blend ist ein Wunder an Ausgewogenheit. Aromatisch der „Classic Line“ nahe stehend, bietet er nochmal mehr Komplexität und Geschmacksvolumen, ohne aber stark zu sein. Ein herrliches Bouquet duftiger Blumen- und Kräuteraromen flutet ebenso am Gaumen an wie eine elegante Zedernnote, fein dosierte Würze und ein Hauch fruchtiger Ätherik. Bei dieser Serie wird wieder einmal die teils frappierende Nähe zu besten Habanos deutlich, die sonst keine nicht-kubanische Marke erreicht! Not quite as huge as some other "Diadema", this gem is nevertheless an impressive leaf roll. The sophisticated format is brilliantly crafted and offers almost 1 ½ hours of enjoyment.

Flavours

Such a great blend in this format can only result in fireworks! And indeed - what an adventure! Citrus fruits with honey, light mineral notes, tonic, noble bitter tones and Cuban cedar characterise the first third. Then the character becomes increasingly tart without the sweetness disappearing; a delicate hay scent wafts around the palate, complemented by a nutty umami flavour. In the final, tapered section, the smoke becomes spicier, but the strength remains moderate. Extremely good-natured until it is put down, with the best draw.

Ähnelt die „Diadema“ einer eleganten schlanken Dame, liegt mit dieser Robusto – eigentlich eher Gordito – ein richtiges süßes Pummelchen vor. Im Ernst: Der zeitgemäße Short Smoke bietet alle Vorzüge großer Ringmaße in ca. 55 – 70 Minuten.

Aromen

Der Blend, damit das geschmackliche Grundgerüst ist dem der großen Schwester gleich – das ganz andere Format bedingt allerdings erhebliche Unterschiede im Detail. Unglaublich cremig, wie Mousse au Chocolat, kommen die bittersüßen Aromen der erlesenen Tabake hier rüber. Die Süße ist etwas ausgeprägter, die Röstaromen sind dafür verhaltener, das holzige Bouquet noch vielfältiger; die Entwicklung im Rauchverlauf ist linearer, das Geschmacksbild hingegen aufgrund des mächtigen Rauchvolumens noch opulenter. Mehr und früher wahrnehmbarer Nussgeschmack, dafür weniger grasig-herbale Töne. In der Stärke nehmen sich die 2 Vítolas nichts.

Flavours

Whow, the start transports the smoker to a summer meadow, with floral notes, fruity flavours and the scent of hay! A rather light cigar, yet full of flavour, with new and appealing facets every puff. In a blind tasting, there is a risk of confusion with half the range of milder Habanos, so deceptively close is the flavour, which also includes woody, gently roasted and discreetly leathery components, to La Habana. The long-matured Olor tobacco in particular creates a veritable peacock's wheel of flavours. Also way ahead in terms of craftsmanship!

Worth knowing

Don't shy away from slim cigars - try this Long Panetela and see for yourself that even such florets can develop a lot of smoke and even more flavour! Long smoking time - approx. 70 - 85 minutes.

Flavours

It feels like the strongest LC "Classic" because of the high smoke concentration, but even this Vítola, which is considered a format for experienced smokers, remains wonderfully balanced, good-natured and pleasant in its smoke consistency. Of course, it has a little more aromatic power than the large ring gauge - the savoury spicy notes and the fine, ethereal grassiness are most prominent here. Nevertheless, sweetness and lovely floral facets are just as present. An almost tropical fruitiness is often present, which is reminiscent of Trinidad. An ingenious smoke with an exciting development!

Diese exzellente Reihe lebt von der ganz besonderen Pflege der Böden für den Tabakanbau ebenso wie von der fünffachen (!) Fermentation. Alles an diesen Zigarren ist aufwändig und durchdacht. Ein Hochgenuss für ca. 65 – 80 Minuten.

Gewaltig, aber nicht erschlagend – für das barocke Ringmaß der Grand Robusto gilt das ebenso wie für die hoch diffizile Aromatik. Für eine LC überdurchschnittlich kräftig, ohne je anzustrengen, verwöhnt die 56er natürlich mit dichten Schwaden cremigsten Rauches. Sofort macht sich ein süßlich-gehaltvoller nussiger Schmelz wohlig am Gaumen breit, begleitet von feiner, grasig-pikanter Ätherik. Wie die meisten Zigarren der Marke erinnert auch diese erheblich an Kuba, was sich hier v.a. in einer Fülle delikater Holznoten ausdrückt, von Zeder bis Eiche. Trotz der außergewöhnlichen Dicke passiert durchaus einiges im Rauchverlauf – nicht nur ein Übergang zu würzigeren, erdig-röstigen Noten, auch ein tolles Wechselspiel feiner Gewürztöne.

RM 61 with a manageable length - something like this tends to go wrong, with overly airy rolling and boring flavours. Not here! This chubby bundle of joy pampers you for approx. 60 - 70 minutes with great flavour.

Flavours

A veritable flood of highly aromatic smoke flows through the mouth right from the start. The large diameter ensures maximum comfort and smoothness - the floral, fruity, cedary and delicately acidic basic character of the blend is given a great sweetness and creaminess without losing any of its complexity. As is usual with such dimensions, the opulence and softness of the flavour profile come before development in the course of the smoke - which is not to say that there is none! In the second half, spicy notes come to the fore and the roasted flavours become more pronounced. Very beginner-friendly despite the amount of tobacco!

Kurze dicke Perfectos haben ihren ganz eigenen Reiz – wie etwa die kleinen Fuente „Hemingway“, so auch dieses tolle Format. Überschaubare Rauchdauer (hier ca. 40 – 55 Minuten), aber maximales Rauchvolumen!

Aroma

Der üppige, mega-cremige Rauch bietet nicht ganz so viel Abwechslung wie die ebenfalls neue Corona der Serie, dafür umso mehr Sanftheit, Süße und Opulenz. Zartbitter-Schokolade, Macadamianüsse und Mokka kommen einem in den Sinn; aber auch die feinherben Nuancen des Blends, die an Leder und Tropenholz erinnern, kommen nicht zu kurz. Vor allem in der 1. Hälfte werden sie von eleganten vegetalen Noten umspielt. Die Stärke, zunächst moderat, pegelt sich rasch im Mittelfeld ein. Die luxuriöse Zigarre eignet sich aromatisch bestens als Abschluss eines Gourmet-Menüs und passt zu vielen Edelbränden!

The much quoted "peacock's wheel" of aromas unfolds in all its glory in this super-premium cigar. Initially carried by exotic fruit sweetness and noble tropical wood etherealness, the taste develops in the exciting course of smoking to complex leather and roasted notes, so that sweet and spicy facets interpenetrate more and more in the most harmonious way. A veritable cornucopia of subtle nuances contributes to the striking complexity - from animatingly acidic citrus tones to a pinch of green pepper to a latent cocoa flavour that plays into the earthy towards the end. The strength is a good medium.

Dunkle Schokolade, duftige Hölzer, frische Kaffeebohnen, aber auch charmante Karamellsüße und ein Hauch Frucht harmonieren wunderbar mit grasig-frischen „vegetalen“ Beiklängen. Mit einsetzender Verjüngung der Zigarre transportiert der schlotzige Rauch zunehmend herbsüßen Nussgeschmack mit einem erdigen Grundton. Bei aller Vollmundigkeit verlässt der Smoke gemäß dem Motto, eine Zigarre dürfe sich niemals aufdrängen, nie den mittleren Stärkebereich. Genial!

1 Jahr nach Lancierung der Toro ergänzten 2 weitere Formate diese Ausnahmereihe. Diese kurze Figurado für ein überschaubares Zeitfenster von ca. 50 – 65 Minuten führt perfekt in den Blend ein und macht ganz viel Spaß.

Aromen

Auch diesem kompakten Format merkt man die lange Reifung und die exzellente Tabakqualität in jedem einzelnen Zug an. Die Vielfalt der Toro ist jederzeit vorhanden, gleichzeitig wirken die Aromen jedoch ein wenig komprimierter, gebündelter. Die fruchtige Ätherik im 1. Drittel überwiegt etwas die floralen Noten; die cremigen, „dunkleren“ Umami-Geschmacksfacetten machen sich früher bemerkbar, Röst- und Holzgeschmack kommen etwas markanter rüber. Der Smoke mutet auch minimal stärker an als die Toro, bleibt aber immer in der Mitte der Skala. Zum Finish hin würziger und noch nussiger.

Wissenswertes

Uns freut es, dass sich nach einer längeren Durststrecke nun doch wieder einige Hersteller auf die Reize langer Corona-Formate besinnen und damit auf positive Resonanzen stoßen. Versuchen Sie unbedingt dieses Juwel mit ca. 90 – 105 Minuten Rauchdauer!

Aromen

Die Hoffnung aller Fans von „langen Dünnen“ erfüllt sich zu 100%: Tatsächlich bietet die extragroße Lonsdale ein Höchstmaß an Abwechslung und Entwicklung! Zu Beginn schmeichelt sie sich mit grasiger Frische und fruchtiger Süße ein, umweht vom Duft heller exotischer Hölzer. Diese lieblichen, zarten Noten bleiben durchgehend erhalten, werden aber zusehends von gehaltvolleren und tieferen Geschmacksfacetten ergänzt. Walnuss, Karamell, Cappuccino und frisch gewendetes Heu tauchen am Assoziationshorizont auf; zuweilen huscht eine dezente Zitrusnote über den Gaumen. Im letzten Drittel wird der Smoke ein wenig erdiger und röstiger, bleibt aber immer sanft.

Now, at launch, it has been 11 years since the tobaccos used were harvested – you can taste it with every puff! The soft, pleasant smoke texture is at its best, the draw and burn are simply perfect – and in terms of flavour, an object lesson in elegance, harmony and balance has been achieved. A dense, Vuelta Abajo-like wood aroma, dark sweetness of forest honey, late liquorice and complex spicy notes combine to create a dreamlike smoking experience. Later, a voluminous bouquet of fruity facets comes to the fore, from cherry to cassis to figs; most beautifully complemented by very soft, velvety R&R and earthy aromas. Medium-bodied, but with a full body, this is a cigar for the special days in life!

The Robusto is the most intense, the Torpedo the most opulent format - the Toro, on the other hand, delights with a smoke progression that is as exciting as a thriller. The noble wood, spice and roasted notes of the opening are soon joined by the incomparable forest honey sweetness of the blend, palate-tickling liquorice aromas, the pleasantly warming taste of soft brandies, subtle overtones of dark fruits, traces of malt, espresso and leather, all carried by a sensationally smooth smoking texture that only long-matured tobacco develops. Stronger and spicier than the Pyrámide, the Toro develops in a captivating way, puff after puff, which has to be experienced, up to a captivating finish. Absolutely furious!

A name suffix such as "Petit" would look good on this four-inch snout cigar - but you can see what awaits you: a typical "short smoke" in perfecto form. It burns for approx. 40 - 50 minutes.

Flavours

After a few toasty, woody puffs at the beginning, the aroma of this endearing little cigar "opens up" and it burns a firework display of hay, floral and cedar flavours, accompanied by a lingering honey sweetness and a good portion of cream on the palate. A spicy cinnamon/nutmeg flavour and ethereal ginger notes with a fine, subtle spiciness round off the complex flavour profile on the spicy side. As it tapers towards the end of the head, the smoke becomes somewhat heartier and stronger; like all representatives of the Classic series, it remains moderate in strength.

Worth knowing

In the "League of the Divine" the air is getting tight - not only literally, since the tobacco grows in a high valley, but also figuratively in the truly heavenly quality! The Toro spoils you easily for 75 - 90 minutes.

Aroma

The biggest "divine" is also the most balanced. The velvety smoke texture of the 5 years matured tobacco, already processed in 2020, is simply sensational. Earthy malt flavors and savory notes of roasted nuts find somnambulistic harmony with sweet facets (honey and yellow fruits); initially and - in more intense form - again in the final third, a slight tickle of pepper, but also all sorts of other spices, cushions the blend's comforting opulence. Occasionally, black tea and a subtle hint of leather greet with just above average power. Fireworks!

Eine feine Kakaonote begleitet den gesamten Smoke; bei stetig wachsender Intensität und insgesamt mittlerer Stärke wetteifern feiner Lederduft, süßlich-pikante Würze, Eichenholz und zarte Töne von Heu bzw. Gras, wie man sie von Habanos kennt, sehr harmonisch miteinander. Im Rauchverlauf treten auch edelherb-nussige Komponenten sowie tiefer, leicht malzig-erdiger Kaffeegeschmack hinzu. Als Vermittlerin dient dezente Süß0e mit einem Hauch Kakao, bevor der Smoke gegen Ende an Kraft gewinnt und mehr in die erdig-holzige Richtung geht, ohne an Charme einzubüßen.

Die honduranische Traditionsmarke Sansibar ist hierzulande nicht eben berühmt – Master Blender G. Schichl bringt sie mit dieser Nobelzigarre aus steinalten dominikanischen Tabaken (die ältesten von 1996!) ins Gedächtnis zurück. Selbst die fertigen Zigarren wurden nochmals 6 Jahre lang reifegelagert. Schweben Sie ca. 60 – 80 Minuten lang in einer anderen Geschmacksdimension!

Aromen

Natürlich haben die extrem lange Reifung und Nachbehandlung der Tabake die wunderbarsten Effekte – ganz selten nur kann man eine so traumhaft ausgewogene, milde und trotzdem vollmundige Zigarre mit so seidiger Rauchtextur fertig im Laden kaufen!
